About Dave!

My wife, Tara, and I are residents of Gulf Breeze. We have lived in northwest Florida since 2001 after relocating here from Boca Raton , Florida. Our beaches, our abundant wildlife, and our unmatched quality of life attracted us to this part of the state.

I am an Environmental Scientist with an international defense contractor, Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC). Currently, I provide environmental consulting services for the Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) at Hurlburt Field , Florida. In this capacity, I provide professional services that include natural and cultural resource conservation, wetland surveys, and water quality assessments for the Air Force. I integrate solutions that enable military planners to reduce costs, conserve natural resources, streamline operations, and promote sustainability. I also serve as a member of several teams and committees at Hurlburt Field including the Energy Management Steering Group, Hurlburt Field Environmental Management System Cross-Functional Team, Hurlburt Field Pollution Prevention Subcommittee, and the Recycling Subcommittee.

As a liaison between the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Department of Defense, I have worked to advance the military mission, while protecting the sensitive flora and fauna at Hurlburt Field though a cooperative set of conservation tools. I have developed long-range habitat conservation plans to minimize and mitigate any adverse consequences that the military mission may have on the natural environment. My strong working relationship with the various federal, state, and local regulatory agencies, community stakeholders, non-governmental agencies and various civic organizations would bring a unique perspective to the Blackwater Soil & Water Conservation District.

I had become very familiar with our local waterways even before joining SAIC, when I worked with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Regulatory Division, in Pensacola , evaluating projects with potential impacts to wetlands and water resources in Escambia, Santa Rosa , and Okaloosa Counties.

I have also worked with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) in Pensacola. My time with the FDEP was invested mainly on water quality issues across northwest Florida.

I am also active with several local and regional non-profit organizations committed to conserving our natural resources and expand the renewable energy market along the Gulf Coast. I am the founder and Executive Director for the Gulf Coast Energy Network, a local non-profit charged with creating and expanding the local job market by investing in green technologies and alternative sources of energy.

Before I entered the environmental field, I served as a District Adjudications Officer with the U.S. Department of Justice, Immigration and Naturalization Service, US Citizenship Branch in Miami , Florida and as an Asylum Officer working with the State Department.
